Gooood Morninnnnnng,
To love knowledge and walk with the Lord!Let’s have a deeper look at these two verses in Proverbs...
Proverbs 12:1 - 212:1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,but he who hates reproof is stupid.2 A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
Some of the most record breaking baseball players have one thing in common, the amount of times they have struck out far exceeds the amount that they hit. Similar to this, the heart that is transfixed upon service to the Lord is eagerly attuned to God’s yay or nay over his life. There is a love of that knowledge, that word that liberates and sears at the same time. It’s in the practical applications as well as the deeper truths where the child of God finds security in that knowledge. Without correction, mistakes would keep children from learning to walk and would stifle just about any activity we ever attempted.
We all know what it’s it like to be forced to wear a seatbelt when driving and it can feel quite restrictive, until you are in a near car wreck and discover it to be the limiting force that saves your life. The more seasoned you become in God’s word, the more you will recognize the many things He has put in place to protect you. Just as any good parent, God’s rules are there for protection but there is also a side of grace, where when you are walking in it, it becomes His good pleasure to rain down blessings of favor upon your life. Those that seek to avoid God’s restrictions, guidance and grace are beyond foolish, they are stupid which in this case means unteachable, reprobate and full or reproach.
In verse two we all can relate to knowing and or seeing someone who will do anything to get ahead, get over or get what they want. Their devices may be clever, cunning or cruel BUT rest assured, God is aware and nothing goes unnoticed. There is an expression relating to pride, that goes like this; “Pride cometh before a Fall” (truly, God can humble a man in an instant). Very much in keeping with this, is the notion & exhortation by God’s word, that the wicked, in all their getting, can not obtain God’s favor, grace or protection. The bigger they are the harder they fall! The spoils of the wicked will always come to nought!
The lesson here...keep striving to stay obedient. Keep looking for the areas in your life where you feel restraint (that is God working in your heart and life). If you are aware of something that is to be avoided, do your best to avoid it. Seek God’s word on the blessings and benefits associated with walking in his favor on the subject. The pain of discipline is always better than the pain of regret.
Colossians 1:10
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
John 15:8
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
2 Timothy 3:12
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Romans 5:9
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Revelation 21: 6-7
6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
