The Monday Message 8/26/13 The Original Sign of the cross

Have you ever faced a decisive moment and crossed your fingers?  What did you mean when you did it?

*We've seen it on countless occasions: a team in the final minutes of a game is down to one final shot that will determine the victory, many supporters in the crowd cross their fingers.

*A person who is hoping to receive good news in an upcoming announcement secretly crosses his fingers. A crossed finger in these instances is a form of body language that expresses hope and faith.

When a person is being deceptive or is trying to disguise their feelings, they often crosses their fingers, but it is usually done behind their back. It indicates that the words being spoken are not really a true expression of how one feels; they are a lie. Crossed fingers give insight into depth of our desires and emotions.

Nearly everyone has experienced an occasion in which they have crossed their fingers. Most however, did not know that the crossed finger first originated with Christians. When it was first used, it had nothing at all to do with luck. It was a secret code. In the early days of the Church it was dangerous to be a Christian. Our faith was unpopular and illegal. Many who believed were tortured and fed to lions for sport. There were times when Christians were hated so badly that even a casual association with followers of the cross could mean death. When those who were Christians, met another Christian they would use "body language" or crossed fingers to indicate that they too were believers. If someone approached that they were unsure about, they would quickly hide their crossed fingers behind their back to disguise their identity.

Crossed fingers represented the Cross of Christ. It indicated that a situation had been placed in the hands of God. It suggested that the believer was hoping and praying for victory in Christ. The blessing associated with crossed fingers for many was, "May Christ be victorious in my hour of need!"

That's significant, especially in light of the words of the text from Psalm 23. We read the words "though I walk through, the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” There are two words that leap from this passage "though" and "through." The only difference between the two words is the letter "r". In American Sign Language, the letter "r" is made by crossing the middle finger over the index finger. It's the sign of the cross.

The difference between our "though" situations and our "through" situations is the "r", the presence of Christ victorious in our hour of need. Without the cross, there is no "through" only a “though”.

Though we may walk in the darkness of the moment, our hope is that Christ is victorious in our hour of need so we walk through the dark moment fearing nothing, our hope and trust has been placed in God's hand.

As Christians, we may not cross our fingers as much as the early believers, but we do maintain hope and faith that in any given situation, Christ will be the victor. We don't hide that hope or faith behind our backs, but only declare to the world, "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus' name. On Christ, the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand."

Today, keep you your hopes up, God will help you claim the victory! And remember, No cross + No crown
Stay the course and embrace your cross!

In today's world we have fast food, fast cars and fast paced lives. Little by little the wear and tare on the soul is due to the lack of exercise, the neglect of flexing those spiritual inclinations. Every time we are presented with a challenge or a test and we defer that strength that God offers us it weakens our ability to stand strong in the Lord. We need to get lean in the Lord by leaning on the Lord. It means reducing the junk content and not relying on self control but reaching out and asking God for assistance in that moment and giving him a chance to take effect.

Luke 12:28-31
If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? 29And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. 30For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.31But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

1 Thessalonians 5:21  Test all things; hold fast that which is good.
We are impulse driven this is no doubt, ask anyone that craves a drippy juicy burger or salty starchy fries. We think nothing of exposing ourselves to the worst quality food, people, and environments because the thinking is..."Oh I will address this eventually",...or "just this one time". It's a trap, it's the deferment of God's help, the power is in the moment and we give it up before we even reach for it.

Hebrews 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

Our Lord and Savior knows no defeat, no limitations and there is no shortage of opportunities. It could be for the first time or the fiftieth, God prefers the total surrender no matter how dire we feel the state of our lives may be; He is the Ultimate deliverer! Full and total restoration is no feat for him.

Psalm 103:2-3 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. 3Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

But then there are others who are so bogged down, so spiritually lethargic; like a junk food induced coma, caught up in the feel good, sounds good, looks good way of life. No matter what condition, illness or terror we face we have a rock solid promise and a King who can deliver. If we could only approach the foot of the cross with such intense supplication and desire, giving into the Lord like we give into the flesh.... There would be such a transformation.

Psalm 34:17-19The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.18The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.19Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Is there a certain person you've held in prayer for sometime? It doesn't matter if it is a disease or just a case of not wanting the healthy life God ordains for us. Don't stop trying to feed them, don't give up on them; fully believe in the Lord and his promises. Jesus is the bread of life and a taste of the King's banquet is beyond words. They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach well the way to a humans heart is through the feeding of the soul. God's word is food for our spiritual bodies. I know the effectual fervent prayer of many availeth much; so I ask any who diligently pray to please join me in a silent moment for that one in our lives...that one out of the 99 whom Jesus leaves us for in order to retrieve.

Ephesians 6:18-20Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;19And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Luke 15:4-74What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Father God creator of all things in Heaven and upon Earth. Lead us to your everlasting word, feed our eternal souls and strengthen our flesh that we may withstand the tests and the challenges we face daily. As nutritious food yields a healthy body let your wisdom rise up in us to full maturity. Father we ask you to deliver our loved ones out of carnal bondage, allow them to see the transformations in us that they too will seek the bounty of your Holy goodness. We ask that you restore our hunger and thirst for you and you alone. Let our satisfaction be settled in the ways you set before us and let us choose you over the poisons of this world. We ask this in obedience to Christ Jesus and we accept your will above our own. We thank you and we glorify your name. Amen!

Revelation 22:14Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

The Monday Message, "One Flesh"

Today, I am going to discuss a subject that is "very touchy" so please, pardon the pun.

We will be discussing SEX, why God emphatically states we should abstain from it if we are not married.

We are familiar with the many varied lifestyle choices people make as well as most of the physical consequences associated with pre-marital sex. We have the obvious ones, like unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease as well as the feeling of abandonment and disconnect experienced when a casual sexual relationship comes to naught! We are going to discuss the truth about what happens when to people create an unholy soul~tie.

Some would argue that having sex before marriage is necessary, they will say that they need to know if the other person is a good match for them. That is an excuse, driven by a disobedient heart that is already at enmity with the Word because they have engaged in premarital sex already! If you have never had sex, then you would not argue that You needed to experience something that can not experienced, the way they are going about it. No matter how you slice it, if you are having premarital sex, it is already ineligible for the blessings God has set aside for those who wait. The argument, from the perspective of the fornicator is already warped, tainted and distorted from the truth of the facts, as they continue to pursue more hosts for their deviance.
Hebrews 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Sounds a but harsh, heh? Well, as my pastor says and I will paraphrase, I don't tell you this to frighten you, I tell you this to Terrify you! You see, when two people have sex, their bodies coalesce, God refers to this as becoming "One flesh". The meaning of One flesh, is both on the physical plane as well as the spiritual.  So, just as one could contract a disease from another, one could also contract a demon (or many) simply form the act of fornicating. Gives new meaning to the term STD! This is real and not something to shrug off. The Bible says many times, "as in Earth so also in heaven". If you drink poison, you will get sick or die,  if you have a toxic mindset, you will become ill, make others ill and eventually reap terrible consequences, Likewise, the Bible says those that commit the sin of fornication are actually committing an act against their own body, whereas all other sins are committed externally, this one sin, is like none other, in that you are harming yourself as well as another!
1 Corinthians 6:1616 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
1 Corinthians 6:18
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
Some would say its not easy staying celibate and pure. Is it easier to risk everything that is truly of value?! In my opinion, NO! If you just met a woman or man, would you rush them over to your ATM machine to show them your assets, 401K and give them the passwords to your accounts?! No that would foolish and dangerous! But people unlock, disarm and expose the MOST  valuable thing they own all the time, through Unprotected, Unmarried Sex!

Women and men are motivated romantically and physically in different ways. God knew what He was doing when He designed us and I can assure you, He really got it right when it comes to this, after all the ability to procreate is a special blessing given to humans, unlike angels. Different also from the animal world, as animals do not have a conscience. We have been given dominion over the animals and are not supposed to behave as basely as they do. "Animal sex" is a term you hear often and it means just what it sounds like, Its not something to obtain, seek or participate in!

From the perspective of a person seeking affection or love, doesn't everyone want someone who will cherish and respect them? You cant build a strong house on sinking sand, nor can you have a successful committed relationship when you undermine the very things that help support that foundation. I have four brothers and over time I have come to know their opinions on many things, most men, will take sex if offered but it is still deemed as trashy and disposable. Women set the bar, if you drop the requirements there is no prize and no one wins!

I am including some scriptures that will help you get a better understanding and hope that something you have heard or read here resonates with the spirit of truth that hopefully dwells within you!

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
1 Corinthians 6:19
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
Galatians 5:19-21
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
2 Corinthians 6:14
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
James 1:14-15
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Making the most of your morning, rising and shining!

Does getting out of bed seem to be the hardest part of your day? Most people aren’t naturally what you’d call a “morning person”–the types who are bright eyed and bushy tailed upon rising at the sound of their alarm clock. Just because it doesn’t come naturally doesn’t mean it can’t happen, however. By following a few simple tips, you can train your body and up your A.M. productivity –and, in doing so, increase your health by sleeping more and starting your day without the stress of running late.

  • Set a sleep routine – Don’t underestimate the importance of your circadian rhythm. This regulates how your body runs, and it craves routine. Ideally, you should wake up from a light phase of sleep, not a deeper stage. It’s that deeper stage that leads to a foggy head and lower functioning. If you set a bedtime and stick to it (within 30 minutes) and get up around the same time each morning, your body will reset to the routine. The hope is that eventually you will be able to wake yourself up sans alarm.

  • Get active – Working out first thing in the morning may not sound tempting, but the effects pay off. Even if it’s as simple as taking a half-hour stroll, kickstarting your morning with cardio will boost your energy levels throughout the day AND help you wind down at night, leading to a deeper night’s sleep.

  • Provide the right fuel – While a donut and a cup of Joe may be an easy way to get your blood sugar rising, it can also lead to a sugar crash a few hours into your day. Reach instead for some quality fuel – oatmeal, fresh fruit, or a veggie omelet. Always on the go? Make hard-boiled eggs that you can grab on the run for a protein-packed breakfast.

  • See the light – Light has a huge effect on the body’s triggers to sleep or wake up. Switch on a bright light or open your blinds right when you wake up. Conversely, avoid bright lights – yes, including electronics – for that last hour before you plan to hit the hay. This will help your body begin to wind down from the busy day and slip into that deep sleep you need for rejuvenation.

    The Monday Message 8/5/13 Tithing

“TEST ME ON THIS!”...SAYS GOD!...No other place in His Holy Word nor throughout all of His unfailing promises & decrees does He say this! Do you know in reference to what, that God said this? It is in reference to Acknowledging God & in Giving back to Him. Several correlating scriptures help us gain a greater foothold on the subject and subject is Tithing!

As I have studied & researched God’s Biblical principle concerning our use and/or misuse of all He hath created and shared with us, I am reminded of a very illustrative comment made by a very wise Prophet who spoke on the subject. He said, “If I borrowed your car & used it for the entire day and then returned the car to your garage at the end of the day, is that to be considered as me giving you something?” No, that would be ludicrous! You would merely be respecting the Grantor of that privilege by returning to them what is rightfully theirs. In respect to TITHING, understand this: God is the Creator & Grantor of all things. He gives to us freely! If we have any blessings come our way; a dollar, a piece of land, vehicle, an hourly wage, anything,...It is all by God’s Grace, Mercy & Love!  He is responsible and has gifted you every opportunity, all of your skills and abilities. In truthfulness, what could we give God? He is merely asking for us to Honor Him by acknowledging that it is all His to begin with and that He has graciously bestowed His gifts upon us.

He knows that we have expenses, responsibilities & needs. Precisely why this principle is steeped in profound promises & backed by an iron clad guarantee, because He wants to Bless us abundantly! The challenge He gives us is illustrated in Malachi 3: 6-11. It is His great Joy to Bless us, especially when we are faithful to Honor Him, to obey & to return His rightful portion, with a joyous & thankful heart! Why does God challenge us on this? Not because He wants to take anything from us but to prove Himself honest and unfailing! If God can work through our obedience to Bless us, He knows that through that, we gain faith. That faith, newly gained, can then be harnessed by the Lord when it comes time to ask us to surrender something that might otherwise prohibit our closeness with Him.

God places an anointing over the 90% that is left over (after tithing)! Without that special dispensation, we all know what is like to have money that just doesn’t stretch out enough to cover our bills. That wont be the case for the Tithing believer! God will protect what you are left with and it will spend like double in your hands, or perhaps even greater. See ( Malachi 3:11 )

He is in need of nothing from us, truly! Anything that we could deny Him, He could in turn create or recreate.  It’s more about the obedience, the willingness, the acknowledging. It’s like a child that saves up his chore money to buy Mommy or Daddy a special present! What parent wouldn’t just be elated over that? What special treat, gift or affection would the parent withhold to a child such as that? Nothing I tell you and Neither will our Heavenly Father!

The principle is simple...”The more you are Tithing, the More God is Blessing you, The More God is Blessing you, the More you Tithe!”

Create for yourself an envelope and write this on the front:
"God gets my first and my best and through His great Promise I make due with the rest!"
Make this your first stop before paying anything! See what God begins to do for you! Use that envelope to draw from when you Give at church or the correct charitable organization that God leads you to.

    Breaking Covenant by Withholding Tithes
6 “I the LORD do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the LORD Almighty.
“But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’
8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.
“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’
“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the LORD Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the LORD Almighty.

    Proverbs 3:9

Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything your land

    produces.

    Matthew 10:8:
“Give as freely as you have received.”

    Matthew 23:23:
“How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees.
Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest part of your income, but
you ignore the important things of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should
tithe, yes, but you should not leave undone the more important things.
