Devotion for the Bible in Unity

The Story of the farmer, the Donkey and the well!

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was old, that the well needed to be covered anyway and that it just wasn't worth retrieving the donkey. So he invited all his neighbours to come over and help him.

They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quietened down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up.

The message behind this story; the worst of circumstances can be overcome when we learn to put our trust in God. Life is gonna dump dirt on ya...God says "Keep shaking it off; it may have been meant for your demise but I oversee everything and nothing escapes My Eyes!

God says we are head not the tail! As we approach all of life's hardships we must constantly remember our place that somehow someway now matter how bad things seem we can RISE ABOVE !

The word of God is a well of wisdom. The word of God is lifting us and we may stand upon it. His word is our help! Use it, step out upon it and draw it up to you, the living water!

  • Genesis 50:20
But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.

  • Isaiah 49:15
“ Can a woman forget her nursing child,
And not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you.
  • "You are worthy, our LORD and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being" (Revelation 4:11).
  • "I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies" (2 Samuel 22:4).
  • "Though the mountains leave their place and the hills be shaken, My love for you will never leave you" Is 54:10.

There is no promise that our lives will be free of suffering...but there are many that say that it is NOT in vain when we serve the Lord! Here is an example when Jesus himself suffered and it tells us that suffering has a purpose; pain in the body alerts us to infection, break, intrusion or trauma. Pain in the spirit is to teach us what to draw closer to and what to avoid. Blessed suffering is a gift or purification which prepares you gently for presence with God.

  • Hebrews 5:8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.

Romans 5

Faith Triumphs in Trouble
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have[a] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Heavenly Father we thank you and praise you that you allow all things that happen to us for the overall good of our Soul's growth and purity. If suffering is necessary in our situation we ask that you provide us the wisdom to be accepting of your cup and to drink heartily unto eternal blessings and favor in your sight! Glad is he who would accept a cup of gal from the Lord rather than a cup of ale from the wicked! Father grant us peace, serenity, understanding and tenacity to face every storm and every adversary. In Jesus Precious Name AMEN!
