Interestingly the strong’s concordance (Hebrew and Greek Lexicon) reveals every usage
of the word time in the below passage as H 6256
1) time
a) time (of an event)
b) time (usual)
c) experiences, fortunes
d) occurrence, occasion
Funny, I’m reminded of the expression “Time waits for no man” it has a set duration and repeats itself cycling through from next to next. If you view the Genesius Lexicon the word TIME and OPPORTUNITY are synonymous.
We can gather from this, that God’s design on TIME was meant for us to take notice, it’s also an OPPORTUNITY, it’s fresh every moment, if you are fortunate to reach it. Every moment, life begins, life blossoms, life fades and life ends for someone or something, somewhere, someplace!
“Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5, 15-16).
In Isaiah 61:2 we read; “To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;” an old testament prophecy that was further confirmed by Jesus Himself (the very favor of God in the flesh) in Luke 4:1-19, who came to ransom us with His ultimate favor!
Jesus was with us for a TIME and He spoke to us about it. How to use it, how to let it go, how to redeem it and how to live within the construct of it.
So, we see TIME is a tool of cultivation, necessary for the fulfillment of appointed seasons. There are some things that require a measure of time in order to be complete, to be sound, and fully mature. Time can be a friend or foe depending upon which investment a person has made. To the sinner time can be curse, if their life is reaping the results of bad choices. To the child of God, time can be a blessing, the reward of harvest in that close intimate relationship with our Savior, not to mention the opportunities to help so many others who are still lost.
Moreover, we need to see TIME as a prompting to get right and or stay right! The power of time exists in it’s usage, in the choice, the “now” choice! In reading a great book, this quote popped out at me;
"Time is free, but it's priceless. You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it, you can never get it back." - Harvey Mackay
Redeem it wisely!
Heavenly Father, help us to become better stewards of this gift You have bestowed upon us, time to work out our salvation, in that; what You truly mean, is time to realize that JESUS did all the work and we can trust in that fully. When we get that message, over time, we then have the blessed assurance needed to sustain us as this world which seeks to pull us downward. Time is a tool that you have given us Lord, help us to recognize “that if given six hours to chop down a tree we should spend the first four sharpening the axe”, Let our attention be on time spent with YOU, getting to know YOU better and allowing you to sharpen us! Thank you Father, we ask and pray in the name of our precious Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ!
Ecclesiastes 3
1To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
